Invisible City

One thing we love humans love are vast gorgeous views, and in modern times that translates into fields of panes of glass reflecting the city and the sky. You’ve heard that thunk against the glass. You have looked out to find a stunned bird fluttering its wings, or a dead one. You shake your head and are so sorry. You think about putting silhouettes of birds in the windows, an owl statuette outside, but have heard that those don’t work. You are so sorry for that little body.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (gov) over a billion birds are killed by collisions with glass per year. Do you know skyscrapers can fix this by affixing dots or lines every two inches? They’re working on a plastic film you can adhere. Of course this means one more capitalist extractive process. But the humans are trying.

These paper cutouts are loosely based on photos of dead birds collected around a building infamous for causing bird deaths. The cutouts are as delicate as bird bodies. The people in that building are experimenting with films for their windows. They are trying their best.
