Resources I like

Why am I devoting a page to this? Because I know that researching environmental news, causes, and actions can be overwhelming. Why is this list only about the environment and not about invisible disabilities since that is what actually shapes my life? Because all you have to do is google “How not to be Ablist” and you’re set. I am not personally as important as the world.

So here are some things I trust and benefit from regularly in no particular order:

Climate Forward from the NY Times, though it’s for subscribers only
Bill McKibben’s substack “Crucial”
Grist
Inside Climate News
• Any article or book by one of my idols Margaret Renkl
One5C, a newsletter with actual actionable information such as the best toilet paper, glass containers, or reusable zip-lock bags (guess what, they’re by Zip-Loc). It’s subscriber-based but the free version does have a few tips and tricks.
Homegrown National Park, because I believe the single most important thing one can do as an individual in the home is rewild your property.

If you want to donate money to environmental causes my personal favorite is the NRDC, the Natural Resources Defense Council, as I believe that changes in laws are perhaps the most productive way forward. And lawsuits are what change laws. I also like The Nature Conservancy as it focuses on how to save actual land while working with communities, including indigenous ones. Charity Navigator has a list of the other top recommended environmental non-profits. I personally also donate to the ASPCA and Planned Parenthood.
